The modern Gym is sub-divided into different zones where different types of exercises take place. For example weight lifting, spinning, swimming, aqua-aerobics etc. Each zone therefore requires specific audio or audio / visual installations suitable for that application. In short, it becomes a specialized project, and one that requires professional yet robust equipment.

The new Virgin Active in Broadacres Johannesburg was the site for a complete audio installation by Sound & Light City (ECLER’s Distributors in South Africa).

In brief, the installation consists of a main / house system, and then various local systems throughout the different exercise ‘zones’. A full DMX audio visual system is also used in some zones, allowing clients to insert a pair of headphones and then select a desired audio channel to listen to while training. One can also tune into the audio signal of a pre-selected TV station and view the program with the audio signal in the headphones.

The Ecler Compact 5 multi purpose 19” mixers were integral to this installation due to their versatility - the ability to accept multiple source inputs of various types with 3 band EQ on each input, 2 zone outputs and auto talk over. Of course, their absolute and uncompromising audio quality and engineering also made the Compact 5 the only professional choice.
